All About Breast Cancer

Breast cancer occurs when healthy cells in the breast mutate into cancerous cells, which are cells that grow with no limitations.  These cancer cells then have the potential to spread to other parts of the body.

Breast cancer is often overgeneralized, but in reality there are different subtypes and stages of breast cancer that require highly specific treatment.

Breast cancer can be classified in a variety of manners, including:

-Invasive vs. In Situ

-Histological Subtype (lobular vs. ductal)

-Molecular Subtype (ER/PR/HER2)

-Grade

-Stage (0, I, II, III, or IV)

Your oncologist will carefully consider each of these factors when formulating your treatment plan to ensure that you are receiving the best possible treatments to effectively target the specific facet of breast cancer you have.
